Frequently Asked Questions

What is coaching?

Coaching is a collaborative and confidential process designed to help you think more clearly, navigate challenges, and move forward with greater confidence and intention.

Unlike advice-giving or consulting, coaching is not about someone telling you what to do. It is a thought partnership that creates space to slow down, reflect, challenge assumptions, and explore possibilities you may not be able to see on your own.

Together, we work toward clarity, insight, and practical next steps aligned with your values, goals, and current reality.

How do I know if coaching is right for me?

Many people seek coaching when something no longer feels sustainable or aligned.

You may benefit from coaching if you are:

  • Feeling burned out or overwhelmed

  • Questioning your career direction

  • Navigating leadership pressure or workplace complexity

  • Feeling stuck or uncertain about your next step

  • Considering a career change or transition

  • Seeking greater fulfillment, confidence, or balance

  • Wanting support with strategic decision-making or personal growth

You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out. Many clients begin coaching simply knowing that something needs attention or change.

What kinds of clients do you work with?

I work primarily with professionals and leaders with 10+ years of work experience who want support navigating career transitions, burnout, leadership challenges, and high-pressure work environments.

My clients are often accomplished, thoughtful people, carrying significant responsibilities both personally and professionally. Some are seeking clarity about what comes next because what they are doing is no longer feels challenging or meaningful. Others want support navigating demanding roles, difficult workplace dynamics, or decisions that carry personal and professional weight. Then there are those who just want out of their current workplaces or to develop the courage to pursue a lifelong dream.

Whether you are exploring change or trying to lead and live more sustainably where you are, coaching offers space for reflection, strategy, and forward movement.

Can coaching help with burnout?

Yes. Burnout is often more than exhaustion. It can involve chronic stress, loss of motivation, emotional depletion, or a growing sense that something is no longer working.

Coaching can help you better understand the factors contributing to burnout, identify patterns and pressures, reconnect with what matters most, and explore sustainable ways forward. For some, that means improving boundaries and leadership practices. For others, it may involve career redesign or deeper questions about alignment and purpose.

Coaching paired with therapy is also extremely beneficial so I often encourage my clients to consider therapy with a licensed clinical counselor as well.

Can coaching help me figure out my next career move?

Absolutely. Many clients come to coaching because they feel uncertain about what comes next professionally. Together, we slow down and make space to explore your strengths, values, interests, constraints, and aspirations. The process of deepening self-awareness and exploring dormant aspirations is often exciting and energizing. We examine both the possibilities and the practical realities so you can make informed and confident decisions.

Whether you are considering an internal move, a career transition, returning to work, or a larger professional reinvention, coaching supports thoughtful and strategic decision-making.

What is leadership coaching?

Leadership coaching supports professionals navigating leadership responsibilities, organizational complexity, and high-pressure work environments. Leadership can be rewarding, but it can also feel isolating and demanding. Middle managers experience the pressure from above and below. Senior leaders, founders, and business owners carry the weight of high-visibility roles where decisions have far-reaching consequences. They are responsible not only for business outcomes, but also for the people, teams, and organizations that depend on their leadership.

Coaching provides a confidential space to strengthen leadership effectiveness, improve decision-making, navigate workplace dynamics, and lead with greater clarity and confidence.

Common leadership coaching topics include:

  • Leadership effectiveness

  • Executive presence

  • Difficult conversations

  • Workplace relationships

  • Team dynamics

  • Decision-making

  • Leadership stress and burnout

  • Sustainable performance

Leadership development coaching is available for those aspiring to leadership roles and desire to pursue leadership opportunities.

Is coaching the same as therapy?

No.Therapy/counseling and coaching can both be valuable forms of support, but they serve different purposes.

Therapy often focuses on emotional healing, mental health, and processing past experiences.

Coaching is future-focused and action-oriented. It helps you clarify goals, navigate challenges, and create practical strategies for moving forward.

If emotional or mental health concerns emerge that would be better supported through therapy, I encourage clients to seek the appropriate care and support.

Do you offer career coaching and life coaching?

My work integrates both professional and personal dimensions because the two are often interconnected.

I offer leadership and career coaching for professionals and leaders, and executive coaching with organizations.

While career decisions are often central to our work, we also explore the personal values, relationships, identity questions, and life circumstances that influence those decisions.

My christian and faith-oriented clients have the option of integrating spiritual direction and/or a spiritual lens into our coaching engagement.

Do you offer coaching to organizations?

Yes. I work with organizations who are looking for a professional coach to work with their high potential staff and/or leaders. Like individual engagements, organizational engagements begin with a complimentary consultation.

What happens during a coaching session?

Each coaching relationship is personalized. Sessions create dedicated time to reflect, think strategically, and work through challenges in a structured and supportive environment.

Depending on your goals, coaching may include:

  • Clarifying goals and priorities

  • Exploring patterns and obstacles

  • Leadership or career assessments

  • Strategic thinking and scenario planning

  • Accountability and action planning

  • Reflection and mindset work

Clients often describe coaching as a rare opportunity to step out of the noise and think more clearly.

What do assessments cost?

It depends on the assessment. I use a variety of assessments including but not limited to MBTI, Enneagram, StrengthsFinders, Hogan, DiSC, Korn Ferry 360 and custom 360s. Some of free and others come with a fee ranging from $60-450. If an assessment is integral to the coaching engagement, it is normally built into the price of the coaching package. Otherwise, assessments and debriefing sessions are offered a la carte.

How long does coaching last?

Coaching is tailored to your goals and needs. Some clients seek short-term support around a specific transition or decision. Others engage in longer-term coaching as they navigate leadership growth or ongoing professional challenges.

We discuss goals, expectations, and possible coaching pathways during the consultation process.

Do you offer virtual coaching?

Yes. Coaching sessions are offered virtually, providing flexibility and accessibility regardless of location. Virtual coaching allows clients to engage in meaningful work from the comfort and convenience of their own environment. When requested, in-person coaching is available in the greater Chicago, northwest Indiana, and western Michigan regions.

How do I get started?

The first step is scheduling a consultation. This conversation gives us an opportunity to discuss what you are navigating, explore your goals, and determine whether coaching feels like the right fit.

You do not need to arrive with a perfect plan or complete clarity. Sometimes the willingness to begin the conversation is the most important first step.
